Position Summary

Federal Data Systems is looking for a talented Senior Technical Writer that currently possesses a Secret clearance that will join a multi-disciplinary team of subject matter experts supporting the U.S. Air Force Cyber Capabilities Support Office and U.S. Cyber Command Cyber Mission Forces.  

The Senior Technical Writer is responsible for the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of technical documents including software and systems engineering, system operations, testing, and user documentation. Writes and edits technical documentation for all of the project’s hardware and software to include installation, configuration and how-to documentation. Creates code documentation for software; produces implementation guides and end-user guides for capabilities; provides field, data definition, and data flow documentation and formats technical publications from pamphlets, technical drawings, and consultations with technical personnel and other available resources. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in creating user guides for the prototype platform. 
  • Provide training to analysts in the form of in-person presentations and through the generation of media training products. 
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides and manuals and technical publications.
  • Gather technical information, prepares written text.  
  • Maintain a current internal documentation library.  
  • Use multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio etc.  
  • Prepare and maintain operations documentation, user guides and manuals and technical publications.  
  • Work with developers to produce quality documentation and training materials.  
  • Work on all phases of documentation.  
  • Understand basic concepts and write technical copy for various types of documents for a program/project of similar complexity.  
  • Prepare reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences.  
  • Coordinate layout and design of documents.  

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Due to the nature of this position and the information that employees will be required to access, U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Five (5) years of experience writing and editing technical documents. (SOPs, manuals, user training, etc.)
  • Required Security Clearance:  TS/SCI with CI Poly.
  • Experience writing technical copy for various types of documents for a program/project of similar complexity.  

Working Conditions:

Work is typically based in a busy office environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Business work hours are normally set from Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, however some extended or weekend hours may be required. Additional details on the precise hours will be informed to the candidate from the Program Manager/Hiring Manager.

 

Physical Requirements:  

May be required to lift and carry items weighting up to 25 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday. 

 

Background Screening/Check/Investigation:  

Successful Completion of a Background Screening/Check/Investigation will be required as a condition of hire.
