Position Summary

Federal Data Systems is looking for a Network Engineer Level 2 to perform network management from network design through implementation, maintenance, and upgrading of existing networks. Must be able to analyzes design, specifications, and related documents; Implements communication system requirements to support the distributed functionality of a software engineering environment. Analyzes network characteristics (e.g. traffic connect time, transmission speeds, packet sizes and throughput), troubleshoots problems and recommends procurement of and/or modifications to network components.

Essential Job Functions

  • Configure, test, install, troubleshoot, and maintain Plain Old Telephone (POTs) phone systems, (including phone units, voicemail, switches, infrastructure and related telecommunications trunk circuits), Video Teleconference (VTC) systems and video recording/viewing/distribution systems, VoIP phone systems (including phone units, voicemail, and call manager systems) and Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) TDMA IP-based satellite systems.
  • Install and configure new network and telecommunications systems hardware and software; monitor network and telecommunications system performance and respond to anomalies and issues according to documented procedures.
  • Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes; assist with network and telecommunications activities being executed by higher level Network Engineers
  • Identify, design, test, deploy, and document solutions for network and telecommunications problems; Identify and document workaround solutions for network and telecommunications systems incidents.
  • Design, build, integrate, test, document and deploy network and telecommunications systems for deployment; design, test, verify, and document network system backup methods and procedures.
  • Conduct Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) session performance analysis and problem isolation.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Due to the nature of this position and the information that employees will be required to access; U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and ten (10) years’ experience as a Network Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Associate's degree with twelve (12) years of experience.
  • High School diploma with fourteen (14) years of experience in Network Engineering.
  • Required Security Clearance: TS/SCI with Poly.
  • Certifications: Certification in routing such as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher. Shall have "Security+" related certification. Recommended CWIP Level: IAT 2

Working Conditions:

Work is typically based in a busy office environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Business work hours are normally set from Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, however some extended or weekend hours may be required. Additional details on the precise hours will be informed to the candidate from the Program Manager/Hiring Manager.

 

Physical Requirements:

May be required to lift and carry items weighting up to 25 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending throughout the workday.

 

Background Screening/Check/Investigation:

Successful Completion of a Background Screening/Check/Investigation will be required as a condition of hire.
